UPCOMING ARTICLES
apartment in fall Summer is quickly coming to an end! This autumn I will be writing several stories including Autumn Reflections and in December, Grey Holiday in Bath. I start baking gingerbread on late August Saturday nights; photos of my baking including that for an upcoming autumn family get-together will be chronicled in Cozy Photos from Home. My husband and I will be having picnics at the nearby geodesic home near the Museum of Life and Science when cooler weather returns, and upcoming trips to Edison Johnson and local cemeteries will be scrapbooked here on my blog. Upcoming Sad Premonition installments will feature Elena Hoyos, Dorothy Arnold, Huguette Clark, Connie Converse, Karen Carpenter, Phyllis Hyman, Fréhel, and Tammi Terrell.

Poetry

These are just a few of hundreds of poems I have written in my lifetime whose soft copies still exist. Most of these were written when I was a late teenager or in my early twenties.

My City is an Ocean

My city is an ocean,
And all the ships at sea
Have sailed a thousand gables,
And skimmed eternity;
My city is an ocean
Of cloudy reverie.

My city is an ocean
Beneath the waves of stars,
And I alone am captain
Of midnights vast and far;
My city is an ocean
Beyond my little yard.

My city is an ocean,
And ev’ry vessel mine
And all the streets belong to me
In dark or sunny clime;
My city is an ocean,
And I have only time.

In Violet Sleep (Chris’s Poem)

Close your eyes in violet sleep
With fields of ashes for your bed;
And in the darkness of the deep
A crown of rosem’ry for your head.

Close your eyes tho’ long the night
For with the morning comes the sun,
And I shall see you in the light
That gilds the earth in rosied dawn;

And when at last I come to you
With sprigs of heather full in bloom
I’ll tarry there in morning dew
And lay them soft’ upon your tomb.

So close your eyes in slumber sweet
In groves of tall mahogany,
For someday long we both shall meet
On distant shore of reverie.

For H.

Rest sweetly now upon the shore

Of greener earth and fairer climes;
With poppies red around your head
To dream of sweeter times.
Rest gently now upon the shore
Of meadows bright and starry skies;
With lavender in shades of blue
To close your eyes.

Splendeur

Si je n’avais pour l’éternité
Que la courbe de ton visage
Si je n’avais que le feu de ton regard
Ou le parfum secret de ta chevelure
Je pourrais m’inventer un paradis
Si je n’avais que le pays de ton corps
Pour chemin
Ou pour voyager l’immense océan
De tes yeux
Je pourrais m’inventer un univers
Car au fond de mes rêves
Nulle autre splendeur ne m’étonne
Ni autre richesse ne m’éblouit
Que la douceur de tes mains,
La teinte foncé de tes yeux
Et l’univers de ton âme
